Avro Lancaster
It was suppose to be relics from a Avro Lancaster bomber shot down on 31 March 1944 during the Nuremberg raid in which the RAF had its highest ever night time losses of the war. This Lancaster item is supposed to be from an aircraft of No. 101 Squadron RAF, flown by Pilot Officer Batten-Smith DFC. He was shot down by the German night fighter ace Oberleutnant Helmuth Schulte of II./NJG 5 who later won the Knight’s Cross.
